Nippon Budokan

Martial arts hall and legendary concert stage

Built for judo at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, this octagonal hall was modeled on the Yumedono of Horyu-ji temple in Nara. It hosted judo and karate at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and the Beatles played here in 1966. It stands in Kitanomaru Park, 5 minutes on foot from Kudanshita Station, through Tayasumon, the oldest surviving gate of Edo Castle. Inside is open only during events.
