Explore depachika and underground malls
- A "depachika" is the food hall in a department store's basement, packed with bento, sweets and gifts. Try the big department stores in Ginza or Shinjuku.
- Around Tokyo, Shinjuku and Shibuya stations, underground passages and malls link many buildings, so you can often get around without getting wet.
Rainy day tips
Tokyo in the rainNeon streets shining in the rain are a very Tokyo sight.Forgot your umbrella? No problem: convenience stores sell clear plastic umbrellas.
Shops and venues have umbrella stands or plastic bags for wet umbrellas at the entrance. Don't carry a dripping umbrella inside.
- Tokyo's rainy season runs from about June to July, with lots of wet days. Typhoons can arrive from about August to October, so keep an eye on the forecast.
- During a typhoon, trains may stop and venues may close. Check official websites before you head out.
