Published: 2026-10-04 · Last verified: 2026-10-04

Since September 30, 2026, Binance users from outside Japan can pay with crypto at PayPay merchants all over Japan. Here's who can use it, how to pay, and what to watch out for.
The short answer
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Since | September 30, 2026 |
| Who can use it | Visitors to Japan with a verified Binance.com account from outside Japan |
| Who can't | Residents of Japan and Binance Japan users |
| Where | Most PayPay merchants across Japan (online shops and a few others excluded) |
| How to pay | Scan the shop's QR code in the Binance app, or show your payment code |
| Supported crypto | Over 100 cryptocurrencies, converted to yen at the moment you pay |
| Fees | No network (gas) fees |
The shop simply receives yen through PayPay as usual, so merchants don't need to do anything special.
How to pay, step by step
- Before your trip, update the Binance app and complete identity verification.
- Look for a PayPay sticker or QR code at the entrance or register.
- In the Binance app, use Binance Pay to scan the shop's QR code (or show your payment code to staff).
- Choose which crypto to pay with, check the yen amount and the conversion rate, then confirm.
A limited-time discount campaign is running to celebrate the launch. Check the Binance app or campaign page for dates and conditions.
Where it works, and where it doesn't
Everyday shopsPayPay is everywhere, from convenience stores and chains to tiny shops in shopping streets. Before you use it
Crypto prices move a lot. The yen amount changes depending on when you pay, so check it in the app every time.
Check your own country's rules too. In some countries, spending crypto can be taxable, and Binance.com services may not be available everywhere.
You need an internet connection to pay. For staying online, see staying online in Tokyo.
- Some places, like small shops and ticket machines, don't take PayPay at all. Carry some cash or a credit card too. See cash or card in Tokyo.
- Besides Binance Pay, many overseas payment apps work at PayPay merchants (36 services from 17 countries and regions as of September 2026). See whether yours is one of them.
